It’s about that time of year again when I’m on the hunt for new makeup that will correct my transeasonal skin. As summer swiftly departs and the weather takes a decided turn for the cooler, my complexion rebels, at once breaking out and drying in patches leaving an uneven tone and texture in its wake. Summer’s mineral foundation doesn’t quite offer the coverage I now need, and so I’ve turned back to liquid and cream formulas in the hope they will blend away all my troubles and give me a perfect canvas once more.
By sheer coincidence, High Definition have just bolstered their new-look range with the addition of the Fluid Foundation. Promising a long-lasting formula with high coverage and a demi-matte finish to even out the complexion, it certainly ticks all the boxes on my foundation wish list. And, as someone who’s known many foundation disappointments, I’m pleased to say this is not one of them.
Packaged in a sleek translucent glass bottle with a matte, black cap and pump dispenser, it certainly looks the part of a premium makeup product and it feels reassuringly weighted in my hands. The sturdy pump cleverly dispenses the perfect amount of cream to cover my skin – seriously, how do they know this? The cream itself is incredibly rich and pigmented, yet transforms into a silky fluid when buffed across the face, melting into skin and seamlessly blurring away all my imperfections. Blemishes and redness are completely erased, whilst my drier areas aren’t disturbed; instead my whole skin texture and tone is smoothed out. It feels both comforting and weightless, and sets down quickly, even without finishing powder, ensuring minimal transfer throughout the day – ideal for someone who unconsciously touches their face all day.
The “demi-matt” finish is incredibly natural – neither chalky, or oily looking – it simply looks like real, flawless skin and stays that way all day. It seems to actually balance my complexion, too – my dry areas are less flaky in appearance, whilst my T-Zone doesn’t become greasy as the day progresses. And so, the hunt is over: I’ve found my new season foundation.
