Alongside food shopping and filling up my car with petrol, shopping for a new foundation is a chore I avidly dislike. Formulas are invariably overly drying, or oil-exacerbating with seemingly no happy middle ground. The colour will be never be quite right for my porcelain skin, always leaning too yellow or a touch too dark – until only recently, I was mixing 3 different products in an attempt to create my ultimate base.
When I do manage to find the perfect match, the formula doesn’t offer enough coverage to give me the flawless skin I crave, tending to become patchy and fade as the day progresses. Unfortunately with my acne scarring, rosy cheeks and uneven skin tone, an application of foundation in the morning is not a step I can readily omit from my morning beauty routine.
Then, just as I thought all hope was lost, the beautysphere buzzed with the talk of a game changing base. Kylie Jenner had confessed her love for Kevyn Aucoin’s Sensual Skin Enhancer – and whilst I’m by no means a Kardashian/Jenner fan, I couldn’t refuse the possibility of a Kylie-esque complexion. And so I chose my shade (SX05) and eagerly awaited its arrival to my desk. The small, burgundy pot was beautiful to look at, but underwhelming in size to say the least. However, a tentative swatch revealed an exceptionally pigmented, rich-textured cream. The most delicate touch smoothed out to cover an impressive area, leaving a glowing, skin mimicking finish.
Buffed across the face with a stippling brush, it blends seamlessly alone for full, beautiful coverage, or, I mix a little with my moisturiser on the back of my hand for a lighter, daily coverage. A concealer brush allows for targeted application around my nose, over blemishes and under eyes covering any and all imperfections with ease for a flawless, long-lasting finish even Kylie would be impressed with.
