The Best Cleansers For Dry Skin

Although wash-off products tend to cause fewer skin woes, even an innocent looking bottle of cleanser can wreak havoc on dry and dehydrated complexions.

Common ingredients in foaming and gel cleansers, including alcohol and foaming agents, can leave skin feeling tight, uncomfortable and flaky. These ingredients can be useful for breaking down the oils in our makeup, for example, but they also strip away the natural protective oils that dry skin types are already lacking.

Pile in potentially irritating fragrances and alkaline soaps (which upset the delicate acidic pH of our skin), and you have a recipe for an irritated, dried out complexion.

Heavy stuff…but the good news is there are plenty of luxurious cleansers that are hard on makeup and impurities, but kind to parched skin. Scroll down for our picks.

The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser

This balm-like cleanser harnesses Squalane, a plant-derived version of the natural moisturising factor found in our skin, to blitz makeup and impurities without disturbing those precious natural oils.

Transforming into a silky, oil-like texture as you massage it in, the Squalane traps and removes dirt to reveal clean, clog-free pores and a baby-soft feel.

Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Cleansing Butter

If you like your skincare routine to be just a little bit extra, try this luxurious gold-flecked cleansing butter.

Complete with its own squishy vegetable root sponge, it reaches every crevice to exfoliate away stubborn dry patches in the gentlest possible way.

Infused with calming Honey, Turmeric, and Chamomile, the solid balm melts into an oil that carries away dirt, grime, and makeup, to leave skin perfectly clean and comforted.

Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel

A Beauty Ed favourite for good reason, this melting balm-like gel takes a two-pronged approach to deep cleaning dried out skin.

Pumpkin enzymes and Vitamin A work to clear out pores and ‘un-stick’ dead skin cells by gently dissolving the bonds that bind them together, while rich oils carry away makeup and impurities to leave skin spotlessly clean and soothed.

With regular use, this cleanser refines the skin’s texture and prevents congestion, making it a great choice for dry skin that’s also prone to breakouts.

Mario Badescu Orange Cleansing Soap

A hit of mildly exfoliating AHAs (alpha hydroxyl acids) from Orange Extract in this gentle cleanser helps to dislodge dead skin cells to reduce congestion and smooth away roughness.

The comforting cream base removes every last scrap of makeup and grime, refreshing the skin without over-drying it.

Alpha H Essential Cleansing Balm

Totally fuss-free, Alpha H Essential Cleansing Balm is a makeup remover and cleanser in one. Enriched with soothing Rosehip and Geranium Oils, it replenishes lost moisture while tackling even stubborn waterproof makeup.

Wipe away with a soft, damp flannel for a gentle exfoliating action that leaves skin soft and smooth.

Yes To Coconut Ultra Hydrating Micellar Cleansing Water

Ideal for festivals and travel, this no-rinse formula cleanses and moisturises in one step.

Alcohol-free and enriched with Coconut and Aloe Vera, this gentle micellar water lifts away makeup and impurities without stinging or leaving sensitive complexions feeling tight and uncomfortable.
