Finding the right shade of concealer for darker skin tones can be a major beauty challenge – especially when so many brands offer only a handful of darker shades. Thankfully, things are improving with more and more brands expanding their ranges with broader and deeper shade options.
Here are some great options.
Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define Concealer
A £4 concealer that claims to cover blemishes, colour correct and add definition sounds too good to be true. Yet, this is exactly what the Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer does. The huge shade range creates an abundance of choice for individuals like myself with deeper skin tones – which means I can find my highlight shade, skin tone shade and contour shade. As I love a bright under eye, I used the shades C13 and C12. Buffing out this concealer with a damp beautyblender always gives me the best results and the formula provides very full coverage despite not settling into fine lines or creases. Definitely one of my favourites. – Ayo, @ayolao
LA Girl Pro HD Concealer
LA Girl’s Pro HD Concealer is absolutely amazing, especially for its colour range and affordability. Beautiful Bronze is a perfect shade for me and I sometimes use it as foundation for a natural coverage when I don’t want to look like I am wearing too much makeup. It has a smooth creamy texture to it and leaves a nice dewy finish without making you look too oily. I always recommend it to other dark-skinned girls as it rivals some of the high-end concealers and it doesn’t put a hole in your wallet! – Shantania, @shantaniabeckford
Milani Retouch & Erase Light Lifting Concealer
Concealer is always a struggle for me. I have bought so many in the past that always end up being way too light for my skin tone (or too orange) and often give me that ‘baked’ look, which doesn’t work for me. I’ve searched high and low for a concealer that A. matches my skin tone whilst also brightening my under-eye area and B. lasts all day without separating. When I first used it, I was so impressed by how easy Milani’s Retouch & Erase Light Lifting Concealer was to blend in and it has a beautiful velvet texture, but doesn’t feel too heavy. I use the applicator to draw dots under my eye area and then gently pat them in using my ring finger. A little goes a long way with this product and so I know this will last me a long time – I haven’t used any other concealer since getting my hands on this one! The shade range of this product is great also because the brand have thought about undertones as well as overall skin tones, so I definitely think there is a shade available for everyone. – Elise, @lumi_lise
Black Opal Flawless Perfecting Concealer
For the days when you want a quick and easy touch up, the Black Opal Flawless Perfecting Concealer is the product you need. Carrying the coverage of a full foundation, the concealer hides away any unwanted dark circles and dark marks – coming in a shade range women of colour can be proud of. This concealer is an unbelievably true match for my skin, and with a very blendable texture. For its price tag it’s a great entry point concealer, that doesn’t fault in delivering exceptional results. – Nateisha, @nateishascott
Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer
If you have bags under your eyes from lack of sleep or do you suffer from hyperpigmentation, then Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer is the concealer for you. This is one of my favourite concealers mainly because the coverage is everything – a little goes a long way, itʼs long wearing, it’s easy to blend, and it does not crease! I mean what more could you ask for in a concealer? It impressively caters to women of colour because it covers up any pigmentation you may have around your eyes, and there’s a wide range of shades to choose from. Enough in fact that I can use SX14 to conceal blemishes and SX13 to brighten my under-eyes. – Bemi, @beautybybemi
