Meet Rea Ann Silva, Hollywood makeup artists and founder of the iconic beautyblender.

Founded: 2002

Location: Los Angeles, California

On how she got into the beauty industry…

“I was a newly single mum and I needed to find a way to provide for my family…I’d always been great at makeup so I began working on music videos and television. I quickly became sort after for my ability to colour match for women of colour.”

On how she created the beautyblender…

“The beautyblender was born out of necessity. I needed a better way to blend makeup on set so I took what I knew about special effects makeup and constructed my own tool on the job. Soon all of my makeup artist friends were asking for them.”

On the most surreal moment of her career so far…

“The first time I saw a beautyblender in the window of a shop, that was when I realised that the dream had becomes reality.”

On what she wished she knew when she started…

“You have to be positive and determined, no matter what. You have to be in a constant state of ‘yes’ to keep the vision alive.”

On how female-founded brands will change the face of the beauty industry…

“It’s simple, women know what women want. The more female faces that follow their dreams, the bigger the industry will become.”
