How To Customise Your Skincare By BEAUTY BAY Routine To Suit Your Skin Type

When creating our skincare range, our initial research revealed that customisation was a top priority for skincare obsessives like you. Rejecting impersonalised and expensive routines, Skincare By BEAUTY BAY is all about providing you with the options to adapt your skincare routine to suit how your skin is feeling each day. A primary example is our SkinHit serums, which can be dropped into our moisturisers and mask to boost their benefits…

If your skin is playing up, here are six foolproof ways to tweak your routine.

For breakouts

There’s nothing quite so annoying as waking up to a patch of new pimples or a supersize spot on the middle of your chin. Whether you suffer from cystic acne or the occasional breakout, these products will help to calm down blemishes and prevent those bad boys from popping up again.

Smooth on the SkinHit Clarifying Serum day and night, after cleansing and before moisturising. Like retinol (but without the side effects), bakuchiol increases cell turnover, and also works as an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. As the final step in your routine, stick a Dot-A-Spot Blemish Sticker over any particularly troublesome spots – these work best on spots that have already come to a head, as they are made with hydrocolloid which absorbs the fluid from blemishes.

For pigmentation

Pigmentation can be caused by sun exposure or by trauma to the skin, like a breakout – which is why many acne-sufferers experience red marks that linger on their skin long after the blemish has disappeared.

The best way to treat pigmentation is to chemically exfoliate skin – with each layer that’s removed, the pigmentation will fade. Use the SkinHit Correcting Serum in your evening routine (after cleansing and before moisturising) to kickstart this process. Twice a week, instead of using the SkinHit, use the Acid Trip Exfoliating Toner instead. Soak a cotton pad and sweep the solution over your skin.

For oiliness

Oily skin produces excess sebum, which makes it appear shiny and greasy-looking. It’s also significantly prone to breakouts, blackheads, and enlarged pores. If you have oily skin, you probably have trouble making makeup last on your face all day.

To treat oily skin, apply the SkinHit Soothing Serum morning and night (after cleansing and before moisturising). It’s packed with copper and niacinamide, which work to control the build-up of sebum that leads to oiliness and clogged pores. Once or twice a week, apply the Skin Fixer Clay Mask to clean, dry skin. It contains kaolin and bentonite clays – naturally occurring minerals which absorb excess oil and decongest skin.

For dullness

Skin looking grey and lacklustre? Everything from dehydration to dry skin and pollution can cause your skin to look dull. The good news is that there are a few quick wins you can employ to quickly restore a healthy, radiant glow.

Apply the SkinHit Brightening Serum morning and night – it’s packed with vitamin C, a potent antioxidant which fights of daily aggressors like UV damage and pollution to improve skin health. Since dull skin is calling out for moisture, in the evening you could mix it with a generous amount of the Day One Moisturiser as the final step in your routine. The squalane in the moisturiser is rich in fatty acids which plump up the skin, resulting in a smooth, reflective surface.

For dehydration

Dehydrated skin lacks water and typically feels tight and rough and looks dull – it can still be oily, because dehydrated skin often over-compensates for its lack of water by producing excess oil. It’s important to rehydrate dehydrated skin with water-based skincare products.

After cleansing but while skin is still damp, pat in the SkinHit Hydrating Serum. It contains hyaluronic acid, one of the most effective ingredients for replenishing dehydrated skin and helping it to retain moisture. Mix it with the Thirst Class Rich Moisturiser – this rich cream utilises colloidal oatmeal and oat lipids to moisturise skin and strengthen the skin barrier to lock in hydration.

For dryness

Dry skin feels tight, rough, itchy, and is prone to flaking and peeling. Some people are more prone to dryness than others, but most will experience it at some point as it can easily be triggered by things like dry weather conditions and astringent skincare products.

If you have stubborn patches of dryness, it’s important to exfoliate to remove the dry, dead skin. Use the Acid Trip Exfoliating Toner to buff textured areas (it also includes lactic acid to improve hydration), then follow it up with Thirst Class Rich Moisturiser to create a seal over skin that will prevent moisture from escaping.
