There’s nothing quite as satisfying as a freshly painted, glossy manicure. It instantly makes you look and feel just that little more groomed and put together. Yet, on my fragile, bendy nails, nail polish lasts mere hours before chipping to a less than chic finish. And so, those hours spent perfecting my tips and allowing them to dry seems hardly worth it for the lack of longevity.
I know there’s an obvious answer – regular trips to the nail salon for a gel manicure, which gives weeks of chip-free, high shine wear. Yet, that £20+ every fortnight is a luxury I just can’t justify. I’d rather spend £40 on a new top, or a night out, or on a pretty new eyeshadow palette. So, it’s back to plain, boring, unpainted nails. Or is it?
Enter Red Carpet Manicure: an LED activated gel nail polish system – which you can do at home. Fed up of chipped or unfinished nails, I treated myself to the Gel Polish Starter Kit. At £59.95 it’s the equivalent of just 3 salon manicures, and comes with absolutely everything you need right from the box. I was genuinely surprised by how easy it was to use. I had a worry that it would be tricky to get the polish to adhere to the base, or that it wouldn’t dry properly, or would end up patchy, streaky or uneven. Instead, the whole process took less than 30 minutes and it looked pretty good (if I do say so myself!). The instructions are really easy to follow, and the LED lamp cures the gel polish in minutes. And my manicure lasted 2 weeks flawlessly, no peeling, no chipping; just glossy, groomed nails! Plus, if that wasn’t enough to persuade you, their colour range is nothing to sniff at, either, with shades ranging from the palest nude, to the boldest neon pink and the deepest burgundy.
