It’s rare to find a skincare product that not only does it all but has benefits for everyone regardless of skin type or condition. Then there’s Alpha-H Liquid Gold, an undisputed hero in the skincare world that’s touted as being the gold standard (literally) of chemical exfoliation. Beyond being a beneficial anti-aging treatment, the glycolic acid-based solution helps to target everything from breakouts to scarring for an overall clearer, brighter, smoother complexion, acting as toner, exfoliant, serum, and moisturiser in one.
But, like any acid-based product it can get confusing navigating the ins and outs of incorporating Liquid Gold into your skincare routine. To answer all our most pressing questions, we spoke to Alpha-H’s Training & Education Manager, Charlotte Clague.
Read on to learn how Alpha-H Liquid Gold works and how to use it.
How does Alpha-H Liquid Gold work?
“Liquid Gold contains 5% glycolic acid formulated in a uniquely low pH delivery system of 2.8 – 3.0, which deliberately and temporarily unbalances the skin’s barrier, allowing the acids to penetrate to a deeper level. This process means Liquid Gold can work faster to dissolve the bonds that hold dead skin cells together, instantly revealing improved tone and luminosity whilst helping to reduce the build-up of cells that can lead to breakouts. It can also assist in stimulating the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, resulting in a plumper, more youthful complexion.”
How often should I use Liquid Gold?
“The perfect addition to any routine, Liquid Gold will offer the best results when used maximum three nights per week, on alternate evenings – our suggestion is Monday, Wednesday and Friday.”
How should I apply Liquid Gold?
“After cleansing in the evening, moisten a cotton pad with 5 – 6 drops of the solution and sweep over face, neck and décolletage. For best results, leave Liquid Gold to work unadulterated and avoid following with other serums or creams, as this will buffer the efficacy of the treatment.”
Can I use Liquid Gold with other acids/retinol/vitamin c?
“It’s important to remember that every skin is different and will tolerate actives in different ways, some better than others. Liquid Gold can be easily slotted into any routine, we just advise rotating use of other acids on alternate evenings to avoid stressing the skin. Use your vitamin C in your morning routine and keep your retinol for the evenings that you’re not using Liquid Gold, that way you will be seeing results from all your products, without compromising a healthy skin barrier.”
Can I use Liquid Gold if I have sensitive skin?
“Absolutely! To start with, it is vital to ensure that your skin’s barrier is strong and resilient before using a product like Liquid Gold, so make sure you’re using a non-foaming, pH balanced cleanser and protecting your skin daily with an SPF50+. If your skin is more sensitive or you’re new to using acids, start with Liquid Gold just one night a week and gradually build up to three nights over a period of time. To lessen the intensity, you might also prefer to apply the solution to a wet cotton round instead of dry, and follow Liquid Gold with your regular serum or moisturiser. It is normal for you to experience a tingling sensation for a few minutes after the application of Liquid Gold. This will soon dissipate, and you’ll be left with a firmer, more vibrant and resilient complexion.”
How soon will I see results?
“Many Liquid Gold users report a difference the next morning after the first application of Liquid Gold, commenting their skin is smooth, plump and glowing. Every skin is different and results may vary however, depending on age, skin type and concern. While Liquid Gold results can be visible quickly, usage over a long period of time will achieve the greatest results.”
What skin concerns can benefit from using Liquid Gold?
“This miracle product accelerates the skin’s renewal process, dramatically improving the appearance of brightness and tone, supporting collagen production and helping to minimise the visible signs of sun damage, ageing and blemishes.”
What are the main ingredients in Liquid Gold?
“Our star ingredient is 5% glycolic acid which works to break down the bonds that hold dead skin cells together, resulting in a more effective exfoliation. This is supported by natural antioxidant liquorice extract which assists to regulate melanin production and reduce the appearance of pigmentation, while silk proteins work to help the retention of essential moisture and prevent trans-epidermal water loss.”
