On a really busy and important day at the office, 12 of us decided to buy a dozen Krispy Kremes and eat them wearing different lipsticks – stressful job I know.
We sat around our very important meeting table, saved for very important things and got to work. With a mixture of brands and applicators, we all put bets on what we thought would last the longest and to our surprise, the results were nothing like we expected.
Taking last place was a purple shade of Makeup Geeks’ Plush Lip Crème, which position we had unanimously reserved for the two lip gloss contenders. However, when put to the test, both of these (Kevyn Aucoin The Lip Gloss and Dose Of Colors Lip Gloss) scraped 11th and 9th place proving that not all lip glosses wipe clean off your lips as soon as you’ve applied!
Working their way up the ranks, we had a healthy mix of liquid lipsticks and your classic sticks from a range of brands like ABH, Stila, Gerard Cosmetics and Illamasqua. Fighting my corner, I put my faith in Jeffree Star’s Velour Liquid Lipstick and chose Crocodile Tears to make a statement, unfortunately it fell ever so slightly short and came in 4th. Wildly disappointed, I was waving my hands around still with bright green lips but trying to be gracious to the well deserving top three…
3rd Place –
Strong in both colour and performance, Ofra’s Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick (in Queens) got our UX Designer Leida a bronze medal. With a true matte finish this non-drying lipstick showed no signs of cracking or peeling in this doughnut take down.
2nd Place –
The underdog, LASplash’s Lip Couture Waterproof Matte Liquid Lipstick (in Venom) surprised us all, including our Head of UX Llara (go team UX!) as she struggled to remove this gothic lipstick pre-meeting! The mother of all waterproofs, this lightweight lippy didn’t budge an inch – even with all the drooling!
1st Place –
Queen of the doughnuts, Gerard Cosmetic’s Lipstick (in 1995) looked picture perfect on our CRM Manager Katie after going head to head with some sprinkles. Somehow, not only did it keep the colour and coverage, but it amazingly kept that delicate gloss finish that we all love GC for.
