Generation BEAUTY BAY are the MUAs and micro creators that we can’t get enough of. They’re the ones who are ahead of the trends, with their fingers on the beauty pulse, and always providing the inspo. But we know you will love the Generation BEAUTY BAY gang as much as we do, so it’s about time you got to know them.

This week it’s time to get to know our February 2021 Creator of the Month, @makeupbymontez. From beauty advice to where she finds her inpso, @makeupbymontez has the makeup and beauty tips that you need for creating epic looks.

How did you start your beauty journey?

I started my beauty journey in 2018. My mum bought me some makeup brushes for Christmas and I had absolutely NO idea what to do with them, so I bought some makeup and tested them out. Three years later here I am doing makeup literally every week!

What is your first beauty memory?

My first beauty memory I have was using setting powder to set my face even though I didn’t have a drop of foundation on my skin. It didn’t work and I looked VERY ghost-like!

What is the best piece of beauty/industry advice you’ve been given?

The best beauty advice I have been given is you have a weaker side of your face. So, if you are doing makeup on yourself or anyone else, you should start on that side first and match it up with your better side, so it doesn’t look uneven at the end.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find a lot of my inspiration on Pinterest. It’s such an amazing app filled with creativity and inspiration so definitely get over to Pinterest if you’re having a creative block!

What beauty products do you always have at your side?

I always have a setting spray and a brush at my side. I’m prone to oily skin so throughout the day I need to blot my skin using a brush and top up on setting spray. I use By BEAUTY BAY’s Set It Don’t Regret It Mattifying Setting Mist now so I’m hoping it will change my routine.

What is the one product every MUA should have in their kit?

One product an MUA should have in their kit is most definitely a handheld fan! You never know when you may need to dry something quickly. Plus, the noise it makes when you open it fast can make you feel like a bad ass, or maybe that’s just me!

What’s your top piece of beauty advice?

My top piece of beauty advice would be not to attempt a look you haven’t tried before when you’re going out. If it messes up, you’ll only feel rubbish and not want to leave your bedroom. Trust me, I’ve been there one too many times.

What is the most underrated product in your kit?

The most underrated product in my kit would have to be liquid lipstick. It’s so multipurpose! You can use it as a blush and an eyeshadow well as a lipstick.

What is your 2021 must-have product?

My 2021 must have product has to be a glowy primer/liquid highlighter. They sit nicely on your skin and make you glow even layered underneath your foundation. If you feel like your makeup is looking dull, I suggest trying them out!

What is your favourite beauty product of all time?

My favourite makeup product and the first one I ever bought from BEAUTY BAY has to be the By BEAUTY BAY Bright 42 Colour Palette. Back when I bought it, it was called the EYN palette but the rebrand of the name and packaging is totally adorable. There are so many different colours that complement each other amazingly so I’d definitely recommend it to anyone that is in love with bright colours like I am.

Which beauty trend are you loving right now?

I’m living the emoji challenge right now. Everyone is so creative with the looks they’re pulling out! Who would’ve thought you’d be able to make makeup looks out of emojis! It has never occurred to me but I love it!
