What is the 7 skin method?
Originating in Korea, the 7 skin method involves applying a product (typically a toner or essence) to your face seven times, in quick succession. The layered application means that ultimately more product is absorbed.
What are the benefits?
Maximum hydration, without the need for a whole line-up of products. By layering your toner so many times, your skin gets to absorb more of the ingredients and they’re prevented from evaporating from your skin. The result? Healthier, hydrated skin – especially if you do it regularly and consistently.
Plus, in the short-term, you’ll have the kind of radiant, bouncy glow that you’d normally only see after an intensive, hour-long facial.
How do you do it?
After you’ve cleansed and before you moisturise, soak a cotton pad in toner and sweep/press it all over your face and neck. Then, whilst your skin is slightly damp, pour or spray a small amount of the toner into the palms of your hands and press it onto your skin. Once it’s started to absorb and your skin feels damp (rather than wet), repeat this step five more times. Then, once you’re done, apply your moisturiser to seal the hydration in.
The most important thing to remember is to press the product into your skin rather than wiping it across. This really helps it to be deeper absorbed into the pores.
What do you need?
All you need is a toner, so chances are you can get started and do this straight away. You could also use an essence (which is a slightly thicker product with more active ingredients, kind of a hybrid between a toner and a serum) for an even more powerful hydration hit.
One thing to be wary of is that the product you use must be alcohol free – alcohol is incredibly drying so applying it to your skin seven times in a row really won’t help.
