Korean beauty fans will be familiar with Dr Jart+, a science-savvy skincare brand with a wide-offering of innovative products ranging from sheet masks to serums. Launched in 2005, the products are a fusion of the latest skincare technologies and tried-and-tested ingredients, with a major dose of fun thrown in. If you’re not already familiar with the brand, consider this your crash course in the four core collections.
Ceramidin
What does it do?
Ceramides are lipids (fats) that are naturally found in our skin and are vital for keeping skin strong and supple, reinforcing the skin’s moisture barrier, and targeting signs of dryness – but easily deplete due to factors like age and environment. The Ceramidin collection uses ceramides to quickly and effectively strengthen, smooth, and rehydrate skin, with long-lasting benefits.
Who is it for?
All skin types, but it’s especially suitable for those with dry or dehydrated skin that experiences flakiness, redness, and rough texture.
What’s inside?
The star ingredient is 5-Cera Complex, a blend of ceramides which delivers moisture deep into skin in order to restore and repair. You’ll also find hyaluronic acid (to draw moisture into skin), bifida ferment lysate (a probiotic), and beetroot (rich in vitamin C) in most of the formulas.
Beauty editor’s pick: Ceramidin Serum
“I’m a huge fan of the famous Ceramidin Cream (you can read my love letter here), but IMO the Ceramidin Serum is the unsung hero of the range. While the cream is thick and nourishing and great for skin that’s really showing signs of dryness, the serum formula is lighter and silkier. It absorbs fast into skin, sits beautifully beneath makeup, and is so potent that unless my skin is feeling dry, I don’t need to apply moisturiser on top of it. Just cleanse, apply, SPF, and go.”
Cicapair
What does it do?
K-beauty staple cica (also known as tiger grass or centella asiatica) is renowned for its ability to not only soothe redness, calm sensitivity, and heal damaged skin, but also protect skin from future damage. The Cicapair range is formulated to do just that in order to restore strength and balance to your skin.
Who is it for?
Those who experience irritation and sensitivity or want to calm and neutralise redness will really benefit from this collection. The products can also be especially beneficial to skin that’s prone to breakouts and post-inflammatory pigmentation.
What’s inside?
Aside from cica, you’ll find heavyweight ingredients like probiotics, niacianamide, and algae extracts – all of which have their own skin-calming and repairing benefits.
Beauty editor’s pick: Cicapair Tiger Grass Sleepair Intensive Repair Mask
“This overnight repair mask is the skin-saviour you need if your skin is going through a major freakout. As a beauty editor I try a lot of products, which can really take its toll on my skin. If I’ve had a reaction to a product or my skin is stressed from too much chopping and changing, then redness is on the cards. But not for long… This mask offers immediate relief – I’ve gone from having a pre-bed flare-up to waking up without even a trace of redness.”
Vital Hydra
What does it do?
The latest collection to launch from Dr Jart is all about rehydration. Vital Hydra offers an intensive moisture hit which not only instantly increases skin’ moisture levels but also works in the long-term to strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier and prevent future dehydration.
Who is it for?
Any skin type and concern can benefit from a hydration boost, but those who notice signs of dehydration (dull, tired looking skin which can feel tight and dry) will really see and feel the results.
What’s inside?
Five(!) different types of hyaluronic acid (each molecule of which has the ability to hold up to 1000x times its weight in water), probiotics, and seaweed extract.
Beauty editor’s pick: Vital Hydra Solution Biome Essence
“This is my favourite kind of toner (or essence) – packed with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and niacinamide, and with no fragrance or unnecessary fillers in sight. I use it after cleansing and before applying serums as an extra layer of hydration.”
