11 Autumn/Winter 2022 Beauty Trends You Need To Know About

Autumn is (just about) here, and as the seasons change, so do the beauty trends. A/W 2022 is all about making the most of your skincare routine, bringing bright shades into your makeup routine, and hanging on Hailey Bieber’s every word. Expect new ways of applying your skincare, bold and bright colours inspired by Barbie herself, and lots of influences from TikTok. But most of all, expect fun, fresh beauty ready to embrace a winter without restrictions.

SKINCARE MAKEUP HYBRIDS

Skincare makeup hybrids have been bubbling under the surface for a while now, but A/W 2022 will be the season that we fully embrace the ease of combining our routines. Think skincare products that can create a fresh makeup look, and makeup products that are packed with skincare benefits. It’s all about making the most out of every step of your routine.

SKIN CYCLING

Skin cycling is a trend fast emerging from TikTok and it has us in a chokehold. The concept is about not using the exact same skincare routine every day but using a different active ingredient over four days. Day one is about the acids, day two about the retinoids, then day three and four are for niacinamide and hyaluronic acid to soothe and recover. The four-day routine helps to prevent irritation and inflammation from overuse of active ingredients. Skincare By BEAUTY BAY have made the trend even easier with The Skin Cycling Kit

SKIN MINIMALISM

Ding, ding, ding! Our first Hailey Bieber reference is here. If you haven’t already jumped on the skin minimalism trend, there’s still plenty of time because this one’s only going to get bigger. Think streamlined skincare and makeup routines with every product serving a precise purpose. Clean girl makeup, barely there looks, and fresh skin is the aim of the game.

BEAUTY SNACKING

Unfortunately, this trend isn’t about actual snacks. Beauty snacking is about taking small beauty moments throughout the day to give the skin a boost. If you enjoyed indulging in 2pm beauty treatments during lockdown, this trend is for you. Extend your routine throughout the entire day, carry a face mist, or apply a lunchtime face mask to embrace this one.

BARBIECORE

Ever since those promo images of Margot Robbie as Barbie dropped, we’ve been going wild for all things pink. The great thing about Barbiecore is that you can go as big or small as you want. Go all out with pink eyes, pink lips, and pink hair, or keep it subtle with pink nails. Whatever you choose, Barbie would approve.

BLUE EYESHADOW

Blue eyeshadow is emerging thick and fast thanks to the likes of Kendall Jenner and JLo. And just like Barbiecore, you can make this trend your own. From bright blue eye looks or baby blue slicks of liner, as long as it’s blue you’re nailing the trend.

METALLIC

It wouldn’t be A/W without something shiny and this year it’s all about metallic. Whether it’s metallic eyeshadow, highlighter, and lipstick, or a metallic French tip on your mani, make sure you’re embracing this year’s gleaming trend through to Christmas.

RED LIPS

We know what you’re thinking: red lips are always trending. And you’re right, they are. But this season’s red lip has a twist. Don’t just apply your red lippy and go, try creating a soft blurred effect instead. Red lipstick was made to be this versatile.

EMBELLISHMENTS

Embellishments are the ultimate way to make a clean girl look feel dressed up, but this year don’t focus on the eyes. Take your embellishments onto the cheeks, lips, brows, or anywhere you can think of. Go wild.

MILKY NAILS

Hailey Bieber reference two here we go. Milky nails are the nail trend we’ll all be jumping on this season. The best bit is milky nails are the easiest to achieve. Think ‘your nails but better’, natural glossy shades. If this trend is a little plain for you, add in some metallic nail art and you’ve nailed (hehe) two trends in one clean sweep.

LIONESS HAIR

With the Women’s Euros behind us and the Men’s World Cup ahead of us, expect hair trends to take plenty of inspo from the Lionesses. Prepare for athletic vibes, elastic headbands, slicked back ponytails, and messy buns. We’re all football fans now.
