Game Changer | The Skin-Shedding Foot Peel

There’s a new craze sweeping the Beauty Bay office – a far cry from the usual obsession epidemics, which see us swapping and swatching lipsticks and eyeshadows, this time things have taken an unusual turn and we’re discussing the soles of our feet over our morning coffees instead…

The subject of discussion? Oh K!’s Peeling Foot Mask. It’s basically a chemical peel for the feet, which uses chemical exfoliants (also known as AHAs or fruit acids) to break down even the toughest and roughest skin and calluses, leaving you with the softest feet you’ve had since, well, birth. Sound too good to be true? Read on, for just £9 you can expect the kind of results that no pedicure can achieve, and no foot cream can come close to faking.

Whilst my feet were by no means in an awful condition pre-peel, but I’m enough of a slave to fashion that wearing high heels on a regular basis had taken its toll upon my soles. Pair that with a commitment to 5am running sessions five days a week, a 10,000+ a day step-count, and a tendency to spend my weekends dancing into the small hours (in aforementioned heels), and you can see why, with my 24th birthday approaching, they were looking a little worse for wear…

The peel is one of those blessed beauty products that requires minimal effort on your part, but has maximum results. The simple process begins with filling the two enclosed plastic booties with the serum blend, slipping in your feet, tying them on, leaving them for 1-1.5 hours, then removing and rinsing. Then the waiting game – in which I started to question my susceptibility to beauty product marketing claims…

Within 3-5 days however, the peeling begins; general consensus in the office is that it’s day four when the fun starts – an initial minimal flakiness which, by the following day, gives way to giant swathes of skin that peel away, leaving your soles in a patchwork of tatters. The box says not to pull these off, but you kind of have to in order to avoid any embarrassing public displays of shedding – I’d recommend this as a winter treatment so you can moult in the privacy of your winter boots.

Another two days down the line and I found myself with feet so smooth and soft that for the first time in my life, the phrase “feel my feet!” actually left my mouth. What’s more, despite the heavy duty peel, my born again feet experienced no sensitivity, and are happily skipping through a life open to sandals, spa days, and sexier games of footsie.
