Neon hues are dominating both the fashion week runways and our Insta-feeds, making 2019 the year for some seriously eye-catching beauty looks. While festivals and night out offer an obvious excuse to integrate neon into your makeup bag, how do you go about translating the trend into your everyday look?
Scroll down for three wearable neon looks that you can try at home.
If you fancy dabbling with neon without going to the extremes, why not consider a neon eyeliner? If you reach for black liner every morning, switching to a neon version is a small but noticeable change. Take inspiration from the models at Guy Laroche’s AW19 show and trace an uber-bright pigment along the upper lashline before flicking out into a wing. This is proof that neon can look chic.
Turn neon into pastel neon
For neon eyes that aren’t too OTT, take your cue from the current trend for ‘pastel neons’ – basically, washed-out, muted versions of brights – and accentuate your eyes with a wash of pale colour. To get the look, begin by laying down a neon base then layer a white pigment on top with a clean brush. The key here is to blend, blend, blend – and the result is surprisingly wearable.
Neon inner-corner highlight
For a modern twist on a classic smoky eye or cut crease, adding a pop of neon into the inner corner is the easiest way to brighten up a typically neutral look – the technicolour accent adds instant cool. To recreate, MUA Lucy Hart recommends using a pencil brush to wet pigment and press it in a circle into the inner corner of the eye, then use a clean blending brush in a circular movement to soften the edges of the colour.
