Looking for the best eyebrow product? Want to know the best way to do your brows? How about the best way to fill in your brows? We’re here to help. When it comes to brows, it’s all about finding what works best for you, so we’ve broken down how to achieve the perfect brow via grooming and tinting, how to shape and fill your brows, our top tips, and our brow kit essentials.
Grooming & tinting
Whilst plucking your brows is easy to do at home, it’s easy to get carried away and over-pluck. For longer-lasting results, opt for waxing (great for thick/coarse hairs but not ideal for sensitive skin) or threading (ideal if you want a defined, detailed brow).
If you’re going on holiday and/or don’t want to bother with daily brow upkeep, tinting is a great way to make your brows look full on a (semi-)permanent basis. You can get your brows tinted in most beauty salons (recommended) or even buy at-home tinting kits online. Tinting picks up and coats every single hair so your brows will always look their fullest when they’re freshly tinted – and you won’t need to apply as much brow makeup.
Shaping & filling
To maintain brow shape between visits to the salon, keep a pair of tweezers on hand to pluck any stray hairs. To get the perfect shape when you’re applying product to your brows, you can even invest in reusable brow stencils which act as guidelines, showing you where to apply product so that both brow’s shape matches up.
When it comes to filling your brows, choose a product a few shades lighter than your natural hair colour to keep them looking as natural as possible. There’s a fine line (literally!) between subtly defining your brows and outright drawing them on – apply product in short, light strokes to create a hair-like effect rather than fully colouring your brows. Always begin by applying product in the centre of your brows where the hair is thickest and distribute it outwards – starting by applying product to the front of your brows will result in a blocky effect.
– Always brush through your brows after you’ve applied your foundation and before you apply your brow makeup. This will remove any buildup that gathers in the hairs.
– Brush through your brows again after you’ve applied product to them to distribute it evenly for a natural look.
– Want thicker brows? A few strokes of Talika’s Lipocils Eyebrow Growth Gel every night will result in thicker, faster growing brows before you know it.
– To emphasise and lift the shape and arch of your brows, blend Anastasia Beverly Hills Highlighting Duo Pencil along the brow bone for a matte highlight.
Brow kit essentials
It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the world of brow makeup – from gels to pomades and pencils to powders – which product is right for you?
Gel = for when you’re in a rush or on-the-go
The large wand catches hairs in one swipe while the strong-hold formula sets them in place, locking even unruly hairs into shape without making them look heavy, sticky, or crispy. A must-have if you’re in a rush and need to add quick definition and a subtle tint of colour (it even doubles up as a mascara).
Pomade = for a strong, bold look that lasts all day
This classic gel-wax formula gives strong colour and a firm hold that keeps brows looking groomed and defined. The soft formula is easy to apply with an angled liner brush – use a light hand for a natural finish or build it up for a stronger brow.
Pencil = for precision detail and subtle definition
For the perfectionists out there, this pencil has an ultra-fine point that makes it easy to draw on individual hairs one at a time, resulting in a natural take on a thicker, fuller arch. Unlike regular pencils, this has a soft, smudge-proof formula and won’t need sharpening.
Powder = for a natural but buildable finish
This palette has three brow powders and a wax that can be used together to blend the perfect colour to match your brows for a seriously natural finish. It also comes with tiny brushes and tweezers to ensure your brows look totally flawless. What else could you need?
